The emotional impact of sexual harassment

On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2020 | Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment creates many challenges for victims, whether they decide to step down as a result of their experiences and suffer financial consequences or they experience retaliation in the workplace after standing up for their rights. However, the emotional toll of sexual harassment is devastating and our law office understands the myriad of ways in which victims suffer. From depression to anxiety and even anger, negative emotions disrupt the lives of many workers subjected to sexual harassment.

Sometimes, sexual harassment victims become depressed as a result of the hardships they have experienced at work. Depression interferes with many facets of one’s life, causing people to lose sleep (or sleep too much), miss out on key moments in life and so on. Also, a lot of sexual harassment victims struggle with anxiety. For example, some of these victims face problems in social situations and encounter issues at a new job because of flashbacks and mental trauma. Some even have symptoms that resemble post-traumatic stress disorder.

Unfortunately, the emotional toll of employee rights abuses in the workplace is heavy and often overlooked. Our law office believes that those who experience sexual harassment or any other form of unlawful treatment at work (such as discrimination) need to take a firm stand and hold offenders accountable. Even with a great deal of attention in recent years, a lot of workers continue to experience sexual harassment while trying to perform their job duties and this is unacceptable. Head over to our page on sexual harassment to read more about examples of harassment and legal options for victims.
